During Tuesday’s plenary session at the Welsh Assembly, UKIP AM David Rowlands let slip about the Leave Campaign’s consistent lies during the EU Referendum campaign.

The Leave Campaigner attempted to justify the lies of the Leave Campaign by comparing them to alleged lies in 1973:

“The lies that took us into the European Union are greater lies than these lies that have taken us out.”

Regarding the comments by David Rowlands,  Mid and West AM Simon Thomas Shadow Minister for Energy, Climate Change and Rural Affairs for Plaid Cymru said:

“Eurosceptics will tell you anything to win the argument, and David Rowlands has let the cat out of the bag. The Leave campaign lied in order to win last year’s European referendum.”

“This is the kind of double-dealing that has got politics into the dreadful post-truth, alternative facts world we live in. Theresa May’s own White Paper on Brexit is the flimsiest and most vapid of things. Surely, any of us who really care for our nation will be looking for three key commitments in any such White Paper. Welsh farmers, manufactures and traders should continue to access the single market without barriers or tariffs, we must get security that funding will continue for Wales, and EU citizens in Wales should have their rights protected.

“We were promised that leaving the EU would not deprive Wales of a penny in our funds, indeed that it would give us more money. Now these promises are shown to be based on lies. Article 50 doesn’t just trigger leaving the EU, it also triggers an attempt by Westminster politicians to control Wales again.”
